Have you ever seen a willow tree in late spring?

In a time long ago
Sat a girl
Against a willow
Her tears softening the stones

She sat against the tree
With her head on her knee
Weepping Willow O' Willow
Weeping Willow O' Willow

She wept over love
Since gone past
She wept when he took her heart
Weeping Willow O' Willow

Now the tradition is passed on
Another girl sits against a willow
Weeping over pain caused by another
Weeping Willow O' Willow

"If only I could be as strong as this tree"
She cuddles up and thinks
"If only my skin were made of bark"
She huddles and whispers

Her hand on her chest
Her head on her knee
Weeping Willow O' Willow
Weeping Willow O' Willow

Thoughts rush through her head
"Bad dreams even while I'm awake"
"Why won't it end"
"I wish he'd just die"

Tears rolling down her face
Tears running off her hand
Tears softening the stones
Tears that are much needed

Suffering won't last forever
Anguish won't be her end result
She's made it through worse
She'll make it through this
My poetry reminds her of lit class, this poem reminds me of my lit class. Inspired by William Shakespeare's "Othello"

Well, it doesn't have quite the sing-song, lyrical quality of the song in Othello, but it's not bad!
